ABOUT HEARTHROOT

About Hearthroot

Hearthroot Wellness is a family-run wellness education practice created to offer a grounded, more personal way to care for health. Through Constitutional Vitalism, we help clients understand their bodies more clearly, recognize the patterns shaping their health, and build daily habits that fit real life.

Our Story

Thomas's struggle with chronic illness began at seventeen, when he developed severe digestive problems that no one could clearly explain. By his late twenties, those symptoms had been joined by deep fatigue, inflammation, nerve pain, and growing concern about how he would keep functioning.

He searched widely in both conventional and holistic medicine. Some approaches offered partial relief, but none gave him a clear account of the larger pattern behind his symptoms.

A turning point came through his study of Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern gland-based body typing. The picture became clearer when he brought those systems into conversation with traditional European humoral medicine, which his wife, Thaisia, had studied in graduate school.

Together, they joined Thaisia's background in the history of medicine and practical household health with Thomas's training in philosophy, theology, and cultural studies, as well as an acquired ability in systems thinking. This work gradually developed into Constitutional Vitalism.

CV helped Thomas make quicker and more meaningful progress with his health than he had experienced in years. It also gave them a clearer way to understand why different bodies often need different forms of care. Hearthroot grew from their desire to share that framework with others in a careful, practical, and humane way.

Meet the Founders

Thomas Millary

Co-founder & Educator

Thomas is a writer, educator, and co-founder of Hearthroot Wellness. With a background in academia, he is trained to notice patterns across ideas, habits, and human experience. His work as President of the Decoding Culture Foundation examines how popular culture shapes thought and daily life, and it also helped him develop a passion for healing from the unhealthy diets, stressful lifestyles, and technological oversaturation of the modern world.

At Hearthroot, Thomas brings that same pattern-based thinking to bodily health. He focuses on constitutional differences, recurring health patterns, and the ways the body's rhythms change across days, seasons, and stages of life. His own history of severe chronic illness gives him a personal understanding of symptoms that do not fit neatly into one label.

Thaisia Millary

Co-founder & Educator

Thaisia is a co-founder and educator at Hearthroot Wellness, as well as a wife and mother. Before having children, she pursued graduate studies in the history of medicine, with a focus on medical humanities and humoral theory in the early modern Spanish Empire.

Her academic background and long-standing interest in holistic health became an important part of CV's development. At Hearthroot, she brings special attention to practical household care, nourishing food, sustainable daily rhythms, and the small moments of rest that help health take root in ordinary life.

After witnessing how significantly CV improved her second pregnancy and homebirth, Thaisia is also especially interested in helping women approach pregnancy and postpartum life with greater understanding, steadiness, and confidence.

What We Believe About Health

Care should fit the person.

Different bodies respond differently to food, stress, movement, rest, and health practices. We begin with each client's history and constitutional pattern rather than giving the same advice to everyone.

Daily rhythm is part of health.

Meals, sleep, work, movement, screens, and rest all shape the body over time. These daily patterns can either support recovery or add to the burden the body is already carrying.

The body often needs less burden before it needs more intervention.

We keep recommendations focused, manageable, and suited to the person's present capacity.

Health should support faithful daily life.

Our aim is steady, contained energy that helps a person work, rest, care for family, bear responsibility, and recover from strain without living in constant depletion or overdrive.

Who We Serve

Hearthroot may be a good fit for:

  • People living with chronic, recurring, or hard-to-explain health concerns
  • People tired of generic advice, harsh protocols, or overloaded plans
  • People who want to understand their constitutional type and the patterns shaping their health
  • Orthodox Christians seeking a holistic approach that respects their faith
  • People interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine, humoralism, or other ancestral medical traditions who want to use these approaches in their daily life

A Note on Faith and Tradition

One does not need to be an Orthodox Christian to benefit from Constitutional Vitalism, but CV is deeply inspired by Orthodoxy's integrated and sacramental view of the body and the human person.

We do not see the body as a machine to be programmed, an idol to be worshipped, or a disposable container for the mind. The body belongs to the whole person and deserves care marked by order, humility, purpose, and rhythm.

This understanding shapes the way we think about nourishment, recovery, responsibility, limitation, and healing. It also keeps us wary of both reductionist medicine and forms of holistic health that drift into New Age ideas or exaggerated promises.

We welcome anyone who values thoughtful, practical care and wants to understand the body more deeply.

What It Is Like to Work With Us

01

We listen to the whole story.

Health concerns do not arise in a vacuum, so we take daily duties, stress, past experiences, and present capacity seriously.

02

We explain our reasoning.

Clients should understand why a suggestion fits their constitution and current condition, not simply receive a list of instructions.

03

We keep plans manageable.

We offer clear priorities at a pace the body and household can realistically carry. Depending on the level of care chosen, we also help clients refine their plans as they begin putting them into practice.

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

CV's approach is truly holistic. It does not neglect a single aspect of personhood. Even my emotions and temperature changes were taken into account. It's a gentle approach and can help one establish a supportive daily rhythm. CV answered my questions regarding symptoms I had that seemed unrelated and had no clear diagnosis in other health models.
